How to Charge Philips Norelco Without a Charger

So, you want to know how to charge a Philips Norelco without a charger?

Well, you’re in the right place for answers.

In this article, we’ll go through what you need to know when using a different branded charger.

  • Alternative ways to charge a USB Norelco Charger
  • And…  a secret at-home method you can if all else fails.

So, with that said, let’s get into it.

How to charge Philips Norelco without a charger

First of all, there’s a reason your Philip Norelco came with a specific charger.

It’s because the trimmer/shaver has a battery that needs to be charged with a specific amount of electricity.

If you use too much or too little electricity, you might damage your battery or your trimmer/shaver.

The original charger that comes with your trimmer/shaver is designed to provide the right amount of electricity for your battery. It also has a special plug that fits into your trimmer/shaver.

But.. that doesn’t mean you cannot use an alternative charger (if you have the option to).

You just need to know whether that plug can safely charge your shaver/trimmer.

A safe amount of charge for a Philips Norelco battery depends on the type and the voltage of the battery.

Most Philips Norelco shavers use lithium-ion batteries with a voltage of 3.7 V. These batteries are designed to be charged with a specific charger that has an output of 15 V and 5.4 W (or 0.36 A).

So a charger like…

Would just about cut it, as it only outputs only 4.2 volts ( how much force is pushing the electrons in a circuit).

The mah ( how many electrons are passing through a point in a circuit per second)is fine overall 770 but overall…

4.2 x 770 / 1000 = 3.2 (watts), This is around  4 Volts so it would be able to charge most Philip Norelco.

Then… make sure the connection points match.

Most Philip models will have the same matching connection and even chargers from other brands will too as long as the output is right from that charger:

But be aware if you’re using another brand. Using a different charger may damage your battery or cause safety hazards.

Using a different charger may also pose some risks to your safety and your trimmer/shaver’s performance.

Be aware
For example, you might cause an electric shock, a fire, a short circuit, or an explosion. You might also overcharge or undercharge your battery, which can reduce its lifespan or cause it to malfunction.

Therefore, you should only use a different charger as a last resort and at your own risk.

You’re always better off just getting a new charger for your Phillip Norelco as shown below:

If You Have the USB Cable But Not The Charger

Now… you may have found you may have found a charger head that matches your Philip Norelco but you are unsure of whether it works.

If this is the case, it’s fine, all it means is you now have the power and compatibility output dealt with.

All you have to do is just plug the USB into the right source.

Look to use a regular charger port and mains, but if these aren’t available, you can always:

Use a Power Bank

  1. Simply connect the USB charger
  2. Turn the power bank/ laptop on
  3. Let your shaver/ trimmer charge

These two options should work but you must take precautions:

  • Do not use a laptop with a damaged USB port or power supply.
  • Never leave your trimmer unattended while charging.

As long as you follow this guide, you can charge your Philips Norelco without a charger.

These last methods are unorthodox and quite dangerous but you are unwilling to get a new charger and aware of the dangers they *may* get your Norelco to charge.

  1. Find an AC power adapter that has an output of 15V and 5.4W (or 0.36A). This is the same as your original charger.
  2. Cut off the plug of the adapter and expose the two wires inside.
  3. Strip off about half an inch of insulation from each wire.
  4. Wrap one wire around the metal ring at the bottom of your shaver.
  5. Wrap the other wire around the metal pin in the center of the ring.
  6. Secure the wires with some tape or glue.
  7. Plug the adapter into an outlet and wait for your shaver to charge.

This video shows the process:

Again, be aware this is

  • Risky and potentially dangerous
  • May damage your shaver or cause an electric shock
  • May not charge properly or fully

I would always advise getting a new charger if you reach this point but you can always give this a go if you’re in a pinch.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are some ways to charge your Philips Norelco without a charger, but they are not ideal and may have some drawbacks.

The best way to avoid this situation is to always keep your original charger with you, or buy a spare one from Philips or an authorized dealer.

However, if you’re in a pinch and need to charge your Philips Norelco without a charger, you can try one of these methods at your own risk.

Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully and take all necessary precautions.
